Lower Blagdon Manor

Lower Blagdon Manor is a completely charming old house set within beautiful grounds in the heart of Devon. The main house has five bedrooms, with a further three bedrooms in a separate cottage annex, making it well suited to larger families or groups who want a bit of space and flexibility. From the moment we arrived, it felt relaxed, characterful, and full of rural charm.

The outdoor space is a real highlight. The large open-air swimming pool, the wood-fired hot tub, and the expansive field, home to three resident alpacas, all add to the sense of escape and make it an especially joyful place to stay in good weather.

Inside, the manor is quintessentially quirky. Expect small rooms, winding passages, and plenty of cosy nooks and crannies that give the house real personality. Because the rooms are relatively compact, entertaining can be a little challenging during the colder months when you are more reliant on the indoor spaces. In warmer weather, this is far less of an issue, as you naturally spill out into the extensive and beautiful grounds.

The cottage annex works well for additional guests, and a gym has recently been installed in one of the outbuildings, a thoughtful and welcome addition that adds to the overall appeal of the property.

Our host was excellent, friendly, responsive, and always on hand to help with anything we needed, which made the stay feel easy and well looked after. One of the few drawbacks is that the property felt relatively expensive for what it offers, particularly in winter, when the outdoor spaces, such a key part of the experience, can become somewhat redundant.

Overall, Lower Blagdon Manor is a lovely, characterful retreat with fantastic outdoor amenities and plenty of charm, best enjoyed in the warmer months when the house and grounds can really be appreciated to their fullest.
