As you arrive to the Highland gem of Gordon Castle, suddenly you're part of something cinematic—one eye on the River Spey, the other on the ancient walls, and yes, absolutely every corner feels like your own. The grounds are exceptional, with sweeping estate drama, a walled garden whispering centuries of history, and riverside views that’ll make your jaw drop.

This isn’t a hotel, but rather a castle available for exclusive hire; or, if you don’t need quite such a large residence, five holiday cottages on its estate. Gordon Castle itself boasts eight bedrooms(each with an en-suite), a drawing room, a study, two reception rooms and a billiards room. It’s fully staffed and catered for up to 18 people.

A castle to yourself with a private chef? It is a brilliant experience. Breakfast is not just breakfast—it’s a multi-course love letter from Morayshire’s finest larder. All-day dining is sorted with picnic hampers, afternoon tea, and dinners that taste like the Highlands on a plate—estate-reared game, Spey salmon, veggies from the walled gardens. Gordon Castle truly presented food so good you’ll forget whether you’re dressed or lounging in slippers.

The games room lent itself to both whisky-fuelled billiard showdowns and relaxed flicks on the couch, and when we wanted to venture into the great outdoors we could indulge in fly-fishing, salmon fishing, walled garden strolls, stalking walks and even a game of tennis on the court.

Gordon Castle’s staff were everything you’d expect from Scottish luxe accommodation – the quirky Highland charm we all love and always ready with a local anecdote or just the right whisky recommendation. For us, we found that they struck the balance between discreet service and genuine warmth perfectly.

Exceptional. Surrounded by history, nature, andMichelin-grade comfort—all wrapped in a Highland hug—that’s Gordon Castle. Not flashy, just effortless highland charm.
