Beaverbrook Golf Club has all the foundations of a wonderful country escape. The property itself is charming, homely, and warm. It’s a handsome country manor set within beautiful grounds that feels immediately welcoming and relaxed. It comes very close to being a brilliant hotel, but ultimately falls just short of that final spark.
We enjoyed our stay overall, but there was a little magic missing, particularly when it came to the food and drink, which should really be the elements that elevate the experience from good to exceptional. For a hotel positioning itself at this level, the culinary offering didn’t quite deliver the sense of occasion or refinement we were expecting.

The golf course is genuinely excellent and a real highlight of the estate, though it was surprising that guests can only play when accompanied by a member, a restriction that feels slightly at odds with a very expensive hotel stay.
Accommodation is spread across the grounds, but we were pleased to be based in the main house, which had the most atmosphere and felt most connected to the heart of the property.

Dinner in The Dining Room Japanese Grill, the hotel’s Japanese restaurant, was disappointing. The food was surprisingly standard and not in keeping with the standards the hotel appears to aspire to, while the cocktails were similarly pedestrian and lacked personality or finesse.

In the end, this felt like a case of being so close, yet still falling short. Beaverbrook has undeniable charm and real potential, but a sharper focus on food, drink, and overall guest experience would be needed to turn it into something truly special.
